Following on from the last two posts, here are a few more thoughts and another go at God Emperor! (a campaign system based on Mark Cardone's Augustus).
Rules
The following rules are for Solo play where, unlike in my former go, the player is both taking actions and responding to events.
The Random Events Table and additional Glory Points Table (for points earned through the Ruler's self-determined actions) appear in the previous post.

Roman Empire at the end of the reign of Gaius Maudlinus |
Example of Play
The former ruler, Gaius Maudlinus has been assassinated by disgruntled Senators. His ambitious nephew, Taedious Maudlinus has taken control and has pledged to make Rome great again (and make himself and his mates a great deal of money).

Multi-Player (or Solo Multi-Ruler)
Two (or more?) rulers could easily be run in parallel with two record sheets and three (or more) dice being rolled for initiative. Perhaps a King of Caledonia has arisen seeking to build an Empire to rival that of Rome..? Both sides would be subject to Random Events that could aid or hamper their ambitions, and when their borders meet there would be a clash of empires. Lots of possibilities, though very little time (sigh). Any thoughts would be welcome.
This looks great! Fast and easy to play, and with an eventful reign.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mark - it was a fun little go with a few very brief games of Dominion of the Spear. I'm keen to have a more substantial Campaign with more than one leader/country and battles with the Portable Wargame. Something to work on!
DeleteI've used the basic system with multiple countries. The more dice, the higher the chances of events. With your current map you could do it with a Roman emperor and a king of Macedonia.
DeleteI will be refitting the map for more rulers I think!
DeleteMaybe you could just record things for two parties - the Roman Empire and the “others/everybody else” (you might call them Barbarians, but I appreciate that’s probably not the right word). When any random event occurs in an Other country then dice to determine which specific one (and maybe weight the dice possibilities if appropriate).
ReplyDeleteIt’s not surprising to see a leader take control, promising to achieve greatness for the nation (Empire) yet enriching himself and his cronies along the way. Taedious Maudlinus was not the first such leader and I suspect such behaviour continues to this day. <>
Cheers,
Geoff
Cheers Geoff. There are a lot of possibilities to explore with this system and I'm hoping to use the Easter break trying them out!
DeleteThanks for the run through / report…+ very handy solo notes, too. All the assassins of the western world available, and a mossie takes all the glory 😯🙃🦟
ReplyDeleteThanks Martin. The meek shall inherit the Earth, or similar!
