Thanks to Martin S for suggesting a go at Fantasy Forces, a "light-weight" (their words) skirmish type game aimed at introducing new players to the hobby. Consequently it's nice and easy and doesn't tax the old grey matter too much. I did find it involved a lot of dice rolling but all the measuring was done with a single 20cm bit of card, so that was easy to remember (ignore the grid on the board).
So I dug out a few single based figures and had a play. Friar Bernard has been kidnapped by some Hollywood-Vikingesque raiders and is being held hostage in a ruin. Sir Percy rounds up some "volunteers" to help in the rescue.

Nice game. Even better when the good guys are victorious 😉
ReplyDelete$9.99 isn’t too bad, but I don’t have a printer and much prefer a hardcopy set of rules (I’ll generally only get a PDF if I absolutely have no other option).
Cheers,
Geoff
Thanks Geoff - I'll generally get a PDF these days and print at work if I like the look of it!
DeleteGeoff,
ReplyDeleteThere is a print copy of this on Lulu.

Thanks Steve 😎
DeleteFast and furious. Nice to see the ‘good guys’ snatch a win, and rescue Friar Bernard. Was Bill the Bow an ‘elite’ member of his warband? And what warband special rules did you go with?
ReplyDeleteCheers Martin.
DeleteI had one "Hero" per side - Sir Percy was "Fearsome" and the Raider Chief was "Tough" (took Sir Percy a while to beat him!)
The Good Guys were Duelists (get an extra roll on a low dice score) and the Bad Guys were Armoured (better defence). The Archer was very lucky, though he was being played by an Airfix Robin Hood so it may have been skill!
Well, if he’s Airfix, he probably claims ‘veteran’ status 🙂 🏹
DeleteI’ll have to give those warband types a try. (I used Swarm for the orcs and Experts for the Adventurers).
Both types meant extra dice rolls if I remember correctly.
DeleteThanks Roger. Nice and simple rules aimed at beginners but work well.
