Arnor Project Update

In November of last year (where did those 6 months go?) I posted a couple of pictures of Orcs I'd been painting for a little project set in Tolkien's Lost Realm of Arnor (Middle Earth 1500ish years before the War of the Ring).

I have (finally) got round to painting some men of Arnor to oppose them. Again they are from Copplestone Castings and are about 10mm size. As to be expected from Mark Copplestone, these are very nice figures.

I have more to paint but enough finished for a small game to get things started.

  1. Nicely done, and yes, he’s a really great figure sculptor (I have some of his 15mm Barbarica primed up…lovely stuff). 👍🏼.
    Swords, Sorcery and Squares, perhaps?

    1. Cheers Martin. Yes some context amended SS&S PW I think!

  2. Lovely armies! I have a weakness for mini armies myself and rarely do anything bigger than 30-40 figures, due mostly to my short attention span and lack of space. 😁. Are you going to do armies for all three kingdoms? On a rules note perhaps something with Dominion of the Spear? I have some thoughts about minor additions for using them for fantasy games.

    1. A fantasy version of DotS would be good (I’ve already suggested this to Steve Parker, but I appreciate he’s busy working like crazy on lots of other Dominion titles) 😉

    2. Mark - Small armies take up so much less space and are about all I can manage to get painted!
I'm just doing a single generic Arnor Army to fight the Witch King to keep things simple. I'm going to use a PW ruleset for this project.
A Fantasy DotS would be interesting - I've done a few rounds on the PC using JuniorGeneral mockups of Warhammeresque units, Orcs v Empire.

    3. Geoff - True, and I imagine one will appear in time. Steve Parker does seem to be bashing out rules at a great rate!

    4. I understand Steve is aiming to publish 2 titles a month this year (a prodigious output). I’ve already suggested to him about some variants I’d like to see - WW1 Adriatic naval warfare 😊. Sounds hopeful 👍

  3. Those Copplestone figures look really impressive to say they’re just 10mm - and your blue paint “theme” links ‘em together nicely. It’s a shame Mark Copplestone didn’t do more - the Undead would have been useful, whether skeletons or zombies I would have been happy with both 😉
    Cheers,
    Geoff

    1. Geoff - Agreed. I would love to see more figures in this style.

  4. Maudlin Jack -
What a fine little army! Looking at those nicely resented spearmen in particular I was thinking they might do well as the foot element in the Norman or Lombard army I don't quite have. 10mm, I gather? Pity, they do look good, but they would be hobbited by my 15-18mm 'Byzantiad' armies...
    Cheers,
    Ion

    1. Thanks Ion. They are splendid figures; about 11mm I think so sadly too small to mix with yours. Looking forward to more of your Byzantiad games.
